Home: Before and After

Hello! It has been awhile I must say. I truly want to cultivate a space here where I can be creative and share inspiration. That being said, I have slacked quite a bit recently on here! The past few months have be wonderful and busy. We moved! We are in our home and have survived the renovations and had fun while doing them. I will go more into detail at some point on the different projects. We love love love our home, it is not perfect and is a work in process, but that is the beauty right? It is perfect for us. We feel so thankful and happy to be here in a new season. We bought this gem of a foreclosure in 2015, did some simple (but much needed) upgrades, rented it out for a year, and then did some more renovations before we moved this last fall. In case you forgot, here are a few before and after photos starting with the exterior: img_6100img_0610img_059500471700003404r011img_0764

The After: Exterior

There is still so much we want to do still, but since it is winter, we cleared the beds and we can’t wait to cultivate them and a garden in the spring and summer. The entire exterior was painted, including the deck, and front door. I went with black for the front door! New hardware, and house numbers were also installed. And a bistro set added, which I personally love. We eventually want to install new fencing in the front and along the perimeter, and rebuild the deck in the front and create a stone patio in the back.

The Before:  Kitchen

We painted the cabinets inside and out, installed subway tile backsplash, removed the upper cabinets to the left of the refrigerator and installed open shelves, installed a new sink and faucet, new light fixtures, installed under counter lighting, a new microwave and stove, and kept the original counter tops. Eventually we will install new flooring throughout, almost every room has a different type of laminate, not creating a very cohesive flow. My husband is amazing and did so much of the work. Love him.

The Kitchen: After

The Living and Dining Room: Before

When we got access, the house and sheds were filled with so much stuff that was left behind from the previous owners…

We painted the walls and ceilings from front top to bottom, ripped out the fireplace doors and installed new ones, and removed the baseboard heater and curtains (but lets talk about how great those curtains are)img_0637img_0636

The Bathroom is yet to come! We bought all of the materials and were very ambitious to think we could do all of what we did and a bathroom in one month with full time jobs at the time. Ha! So the bathroom will be accomplished this summer, along with the second bedroom. I think the bathroom will be the most dramatic. Our next project this spring is reworking this shed in the backyard into a guest house, which includes adding new drywall, paint inside and out, add plumbing to create a bathroom, renovating the inside to create a kitchen, living space and a loft bedroom! Easy right? 😉

King Bhumibol of Thailand

The beloved Thai king passed away today October 13, 2016. He was the longest reigning monarch in the world, so very loved by the Thai people. Thailand is my second home and in the two years that I lived in Bangkok, I saw just how important to and how loved he was by the Thai society. My prayers and thoughts are with the Thai people as they face the future without their king. Here is a tribute to the King.

Entryway Inspiration

I love the the look of the black door in this photo. Here is my inspiration for the entryway. I want a simple bench to serve as an entryway piece, I may not have anything for awhile and take my time finding the perfect piece. Some plants, and a mirror. Nice and simple.

I love the color above for the front door. I don’t know if it will be too light? It is what I wanted to do since last year, but I’m actually leaning more to painting the door a glossy black.  Black is so chic and classic, no?

Finally, I love this bistro set, I think it would be perfect for the front deck.50943435

Bathroom Inspiration

Clean, simple and modern. I am still deciding about the light fixtures. I am trying to keep things simple and neutral. Things that I can be happy with, but can upgrade down the road, instead of splurging now. I think the bathroom will be the most dramatic before and after.

List for the bathroom:

-Rip out the existing vanity and shelving

-Install new vanity, mirror, lights, ceiling light

-Install new flooring

-Install new toilet

-Possibly install subway tile on the wall of the vanity, and the tub surround
