Our House: The Progress

We spent around two months preparing the house to be appraised. We painted the inside and out, scrubbed the floors, changed the fixtures, painted the deck, cleared the yard and beds to update and prepare the space for a renter. The house color is a mixture of left over paint from our friend, so it is fun to try to describe the color to people! Not sure what color it is! We are so thankful for family and friends who helped us along the way.

We would have loved to have moved in right away, but since we still were managing the apartments were we live, we just couldn’t let go of that just yet. So we decided the smart thing to do was to rent out the house for a year, which we did last October. We had a great tenant this past year. (it’s not always easy to find good tenants, let me tell you) The outside is looking kind of shabby again, but nothing that some elbow grease can’t fix.  We were able to save money this year, I can’t believe a year has gone by and we will have access to the house again this coming November. At the end of November we plan to move on from managing the apartments which we have done for 3.5 years. We have lived our apartment since we were married, which will be 5 years this month. It’s so crazy how time passes. We are so ready and excited for a new season and for change.

Over the last year, we (well, I) have been planning and scheming all of my inspiration to update and to make our home more beautiful. All within a budget, I will post at a later time all of those details of how to design and renovate on a budget, and what has worked for us. I know that I will have so much yet to learn as we go along.

The following photos are of the time in August and September 2015 while we were preparing and cleaning up the house. Enjoy!

I watered the grass everyday, and it turned green!
